WHAT HAPPENS

Revelation 3:20-21

I.                   WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS LORD IN YOUR HEART?

Romans 12:1-2          I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.   2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

John 14:23            Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

The key word in this verse is WILL.

It isn't "if you will"    "if you could"   "if maybe you will."

It states that if you love Christ YOU WILL keep my words.

It also states in the verses just quoted…

            "Be ye transformed"  Why?

                        That you may prove

                                    What is         Good

                                                            Acceptable

                                                            Perfect

                                    Will of GOD

You see it is up to me, it is up to you… each of us individually to prove ourselves to God.  I cannot do it for you, likewise you cannot do it for me.

II.                PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS SAYING REPENT AND THEN GET SAVED.

Can you repent and get saved?   I don't believe you can.

An unsaved person doesn't know what to repent from.

Repentance is a given when you accept Christ as LORD and Saviour.

In other words repentance just happens like our text states.

Repentance is turning away or changing direction

Humbleness is being aware of your defects

Something in your heart must change before you can get rid of pride, before you can change your ways.

Repentance and humbleness isn't a given, it is accepting Christ, and by loving Him repentance and humbleness occur.

After we have accepted the LORD Jesus Christ we then will consciously repent as we learn and continue the walk of faith.

Sin will soon become obvious to us and we will then abhor it and we then turn away.

Our text verses state:

Revelation 3:20-21            Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.   21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

A.                I stand at the door and knock

1.      HE is looking for us

He is standing at the door

2.      If you hear his voice

He is Knocking

3.      If you open the door

He will come to you and sup with you

B.                To Him That Overcometh

1.                  He will sit with Christ

2.                  Just as HE overcame

3.                  Just as HE sits at HIS Fathers throne

Luke 15:17-21            And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!   18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,  19And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.  20And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.  21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

We see in this parable the prodigal son changed his ways, after his heart got right with God.

Before I was led to the LORD and got saved, I was not aware of a need to change, or to repent

The repentant thief speaking on the cross:

Luke 23:40            But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

C.                A Repented Thief Rebuked the Sinful Companion

Luke 23:41            And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

D.                A Repented Thief Confessed His own Sin

Luke 23:42            And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

E.                 The Repented Thief Accepted Christ

III.             HAVE YOU ACCEPTED OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST?

A.                Do Understand;    It Is A Must.

1. It is required

John 3:16 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:13 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

B.                No Better Time Than Now.

1.      Last weeks obituaries averaged less than 55

John 14:23  …and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Love is what brings about repentance, with the love for Christ in our hearts, sin is horrible, repugnant, terrible and the list goes on and on.

It is this love is what causes repentance.

Room at the Cross for You  by Ira F. Stanfill

The cross upon which Jesus died

Is a shelter in which we hide;

And it's grace so free is sufficient for me,

And deep is its fountain

As wide as the sea

There's room at the cross for you.

Tho millions have found Him a friend

And have turned from the sins they have sinned,

The Saviour still waits to open the gates

And welcome a sinner before it's to late

There's room at the cross for you.

The hand of my Saviour is strong,

And the love of my Savior is long;

Through sunshine or rain,

Through loss or in gain,

The blood flows from Calvary

To cleanse every stain.

There's room at the cross for you

Tho millions have come

There's still room for one

Yes there's room at the cross for you.
